Being one of the most respected voices in contemporary sociology, Karl-Siegbert Rehberg, born 1943, is holding the Chair of Sociological Theory and Sociology of Culture at Technische Universität Dresden (since 2009 as Senior Professor). Having studied sociology and political sciences at Universität zu Köln and Rheinisch-Westfälische Technische Hochschule Aachen, Rehberg gained his doctorate with Arnold Gehlen for his dissertation entitled “Ansätze zu einer perspektivischen Soziologie der Institutionen”. From 1974 to 1985, he worked as a Senior Lecturer, from 1985 to 1992 as a University Lecturer at RWTH Aachen. In 1992, Rehberg was appointed Professor at Technische Universität Dresden, where he served as Dean of the Philosophische Fakultät from 1994 to 1997. Among the numerous Visiting Professorships and Fellowships, the most notable institutions include the Università degli Studi di Trento (1999-2009), the Università di Roma “La Sapienza” (1998), the École Pratique des Hautes Études in Paris (1999 and 2003) as well as the Università degli Studi di Napoli (2003), the Université de Lausanne (2004) and the Universität Basel (2005 and 2007). From 1997 to 2009, Rehberg was principal investigator of the research project “Kunstinstitutionen in der Moderne” and executive board member of the Sonderforschungsbereich 537 “Institutionalität und Geschichtlichkeit”. From 2003 to 2007, he was President of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Soziologie. Since 2014 Rehberg is head of the project „Gesellschaftsfarben“ within the joint project of the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research “Farbe als Akteur und Speicher (FARBAKS)”. Currently, he also serves as Director of the Dresdner Institut für Kulturstudien as well as the Dresden School of Culture at Dresden International University. Since 1977 he is the editor of the complete work edition of his former doctoral advisor Arnold Gehlen. Furthermore, Rehberg is member of the Cultural Advisory Council of Dresden, the Scientific Committee of the International Helmuth Plessner Society as well as the Saxonian Senat of Culture. In 2011, he received the Science Award of the Aby-Warburg-Foundation and the “Chevalier dans l’Ordre des Palmes Académiques”.
