Flat Ontologies and the Technologies of the Natural Image
Taking the writings of French critic and film theorist André Bazin as the point of departure, this project explores cinema as a a medium of what we might call „flat ontologies“, i.e. a medium that systematically and, in eradicates traditional hierarchies of being. Adressing the philosophical importance of his Catholicism, the project argues that with Bazin, we may unterstand cinema as a technology of the natural image, a mechanism for the production of real presence and for the transsubstantiation of the world into the image.
