The Journal for Media and Cultural Research (ZMK) aims at a cross-disciplinary discussion of a theory of cultural techniques and of problems of media philosophy. It starts from the assumption that the evolution of media-cultural contexts can only be adequately grasped by taking into account the role of artifacts and apparatuses in cultural output and reflection on the latter. Hence, the focus of the scholarly contributions is placed on the analysis of the interrelations among actions, knowledge and works in ensembles composed of both human and non-human agents. The journal thus offers an international forum to “kulturwissenschaftliche Medienforschung”, which has, in the meanwhile, been established as a scholarly discipline in its own right.
