Vita

Gabriele Gramelsberger is a research fellow at the DFG institute of advanced studies “mecs media cultures of computer simulation” at Leuphana Universität Lüneburg. Having studied philosophy, political science and psychology at Universität Augsburg from 1993 to 1996, as well as in Maastricht, she gained her PhD in 2001 with a dissertation entitled “Semiotik und Simulation: Fortführung der Schrift ins Dynamische“, supervised by Sybille Krämer at Freie Universität Berlin. From 2002 to 2007, Gramelsberger was associated member of the BMBF-initiative “Science Policy Studies”. In 2008, she was a research fellow at the Max Planck In-stitut für Meteorologie in Hamburg. She has been principal investigator of the BMBF research project “Computer-based Simulation – New Tools of Knowledge Production” and of the BMBF conjoint research group “Embodied Information: ‘Life-like’ Algorithms & Cellular ‘Machines’”, both at Freie Universität Berlin. Moreover, Gramelsberger directed the DFG research network “Atmosphere & Algorithms”. From 2012 to 2014, Gabriele Gramelsberger was part of the chair of aesthetics at Kunsthochschule für Medien, Köln. Currently she is working on her habilitation thesis in philosophy named “Operative Epistemologie. Begriff-stheoretische Analyse der Erkenntnis- und Formkraft der Mathematik“ at Technische Univer-sität Darmstadt.
